Bio

Rocío Rodríguez was born in Chihuahua, Mexico, currently based in Santa Fe, NM, working as SITE Guide Manager at SITE Santa Fe and on her studio practice. She has a background in architecture, holding an M.Arch degree from the University of New Mexico and nearly ten years of experience. Rocío left the construction field to pursue a Fine Arts degree with a focus on sculpture at the Santa Fe Community College. For five years, she had a side business as a portrait photographer. Her multidisciplinary background is reflected in her work.

Rocío uses canvas fabric and acrylic paint to create sculptures that adapt to the space. Rocío is an immigrant; she adapts to her context, and her work behaves similarly. Her work captures the absence of the body. Folds of the skin or entangled hair are frequent themes in her work. In her pieces, Rocío celebrates the architecture of the canvas by removing the stretcher and embracing the qualities of the material. Both sides of the canvas are important. In Rocío’s work, the canvas is free.
